Senem
Diyici
|
Born in Istanbul, Senem Diyici moved to France in 1982 after a career in Turkey where she was recognized in the field of traditional music and classical Turkish. In 1987 she met guitarist and composer Alain Blesing and this first collaboration will result in a album “Takalar” recorded in sextet with, among others, percussionist Okay Temiz. In 2002 and 2003 she has worked in a duo with the pianist Jean-Marie Machado since 2001 and she is regularly has been invited to Turkey on recordings (Okay Temiz, Turco Roman Projekt, ...) or on many performances. The years 2006 and 2007 were devoted to a deepening of his work as a duo with Alain Blesing and both artists came after 20 years of working together in a musical complicity fueled by their exceptional qualities of improvisers. At the end 2008, Senem Diyici founded a trio for voice-violin-cello “Trio Lyrism”, which is dedicated to the classical Turkish to nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

In addition to a stage presence full of energy and emotion, Senem Diyici is gathering a set of drums in which she melts instruments from many different cultures (India, Africa, Far East, Scandinavia, ...) to different instruments from later sound generation (samplers, loopers). Also involved in the transmission and coordinating education for many years of courses and workshops around the vocal techniques and more recently around the shamanistic ritual music. In the late 2000s, Senem finally began painting on glass using her own particular technique. |

"We must insist on the coherence and reactivity of this group now able to deliver on stage the same confidence that even if it was a recording studio in favor of a special supplement freshness and spontaneity " |
|
Jazz Magazine |
"She comes from Turkey where she assimilated the tradition in all its forms. Since she was raised in France, about 20 years ago, Senem Diyici continues to lend his haunting voice to all kinds of experiments in jazz. With his fellow Alain Blesing (guitar, Turkish saz, oud and Middle Eastern arrangements), she weaves a world where East and West intertwine. A consistent discography, a repertoire that escapes poncifs and disturbing stage presence. Senem is decidedly enveloping & haunting. A highlight of this festival Femmes du Monde " |
|
Le Monde |
"From this course Anatolia organized around Trabzon emerging music lively, vibrant, mixed emotion" |
|
Jazzman |
"For nearly fifteen years the names of Senem Diyici and Alain Blesing are associated with the delicate work of melting Eastern and Western music .... Who would try to lead (them) on the tracks alone would quickly exotism for his expenses. .. This intransigence, the honesty with oneself can be explained the stability of band in four has just become a sextet " |
|
VSD |
"Instead of jazz, not simply singing together, is indeed one of the most stunning music room at the end of this century" |
|
Libération |
"In addition to this exceptional tone, the young singer has an extraordinary charisma" |
|
Telerama |
"... Probably what happened to the best of turkish jazz since Okay Temiz .... It is known that already the jewel of the Bosphorus" |
|
l 'Humanité |
"From the suave arabesques sinuosities in tender nostalgia relayed by sparkling dances, the balance is perfect" |
"His voice sonds like a revelation .." |
|
| Télérama | ThatÕs the bop of the Bosphorus of the cat-like woman Senem Diyici, who sails smoothly from sweet meanders to sparkling dances, a chamber world music, acoustic and play full. |
| El Diario de Mallorca | Their music is a combination of traditionnal and classic turkish music and european jazz. The lyrics are based on the poems of turkish, armenian, and kurdish poets from the 16th and 17th century. The result that comes from this musical message combined with the indian rhythms of Ravy Magnifique, the jazz harmony from Alain Blesing, Philippe Botta and Senem DiyiciÕs voice is marvellous... |
| VSD | ...a voice blessed by the gods... |
| Jazzman | ...a breath of mediterranean freshness and a lesson of freedom... |
| Libération | Senem Diyici 4tet, probably the best thing that happened to turkish jazz since Okay Temiz...the one that we call the precious jewel of the Bosphorus |
| Disques Magazine | Crossing subtly jazz and traditionnal, the singer shows us some splendid sound landscapes. Rhythms and colors to zenith... |
| Jazz Magazine | Two roads that crossed many times before, come together ; electric and acoustic guitar and double bass meet on a journey that is exotic and intimate, with sounds from the West sometimes from far away, or beyond. |
Senem’i ilk kez 80’li yillarin ikinci yarisinda, Fransiz televizyonunun göçmenler için pazar sabahlari hazirlanan on dakikalik bir programda görmüstüm. Bir akraba, can dost, kirk yillik komsuyu çagristiriyordu.... Kozmopolit Istanbul’un göbegi Beyoglu sisli’de, dünyaya gelirken, çevresinde yasayan Ermeni, Italyan, Macar, Rum, Yahudi, vs komsularin, arkadasliklarin ona katacagi dogal zenginligi kestiremezdi. “Takalar”, “Geste/Jest”, “Divan”, “Tell Me Trabizon”.
